March Madness

March Madness Rules:
Bracket, schmacket. Grind it out instead. Players receive 25,000 Points each round of the Tournament. Wager on games like you would in Vegas. No minimums or maximums* - similar to The Grind's NFL Playoffs. WINNINGS ROLL OVER inside each round (unlike NFL contest). So, if you win on a 1 o'clock game, you can use your winnings for games later that day. Prizes go to players with the highest point totals after the tournament concludes. *Parlays have a maximum of 5,000 points.

Prizes

  • $500 Grand Prize
  • $200 Runner Up
  • $100 2nd Runner Up
  • $50 3rd Runner Up
  • $25 4th Runner Up
  • 6-10 = SportsGrind.Net T-Shirt

Game Basics

Players ("Grinders") receive a weekly handout (Points) and disburse all of it across the game table on spreads, over/unders, and/or moneylines. Minimums and maximums are set during regular season in order to make it clear that this is a game of skill, not chance.

Only winnings count. They accumulate in your player bank account. If you lose or push (tie), then it scores a zero. Weekly winnings are stored in your player bank account over the course of a regular season. Make side bets including parlays, highest/lowest scoring game and who will win the super bowl.

ALL players enter into the playoffs (which parallel real life playoffs unlike fantasy). Take your regular season winnings and go nuts. It's a no holds barred fight to the finish. Handouts are gone. Restrictions are lifted. Go all or none. If you bust, you're out until next time!

Recruiters (Independent Business Owners)

When you sign up you are given a unique Member ID. Whenever you invite a new site member, they will use your Member ID to sign up. They'll show up on your 'Recruit Page.' When that recruit signs up for any of our events, you get paid a 20% commission.*

*Example: You recruit 50 members to the site and they all sign up for the NFL season, currently priced at $15. That means you're entitled to $150 just for inviting them. Let's say they sign up for NCAA Football, that's another $150. Say next year they all sign up again for the same events, that's a total of $600 for YOU just for inviting them.

Disclaimer: Commissions will accrue immediately; however members must sign our independent contractors agreement, fill out a W-9 and return to us in order to receive commission checks. Commissions are paid quarterly.

Prizes

The site's top point earners receive prizes weekly, at the end of the regular season AND at the end of the playoffs. Prizes are progressive. The more Grinders, the bigger the prizes get... prizes galore!

Weekly Head-to-Head Matchups

Inside each league, players are matched up in a one-on-one format. The player that earns more points that particular week earns a bonus. If players tie, then the bonus is split 50/50. If a league has an odd amount of players, then the player not paired in a head-to-head matchup still plays the week as usual, however they wouldn't be eligible to win the bonus. All players keep their earnings. Matchups are system generated, random.

Type of Picks Defined
Point Spread

The point spread is the number of points that the favored team is expected to win by. For example, say the favorite is expected to beat the underdog by 7 points. The favorite would be -7 and the underdog would be +7, also known as a handicap in sports like golf or bowling. If you pick the favorite to win, then that team has to win by more than 7 points for you to win. If you they win by fewer than 7 points or lose the game, then you lose. Vice versa for the underdog. If the final score is exactly 7 points different, then the result is a push (tie). In our game a loss or a push both score 0 points. Spreads odds are 1:1

Over/Under

An over/under is a number that represents the combined point total of two teams playing in a match. Let's say two teams are playing and the over/under (combined score) is 52 points. If you think the point total will be more than 52, then you would pick the 'over.' And if you think it will be less than 52, then you would pick the 'under.' An exact final score of 52 would create a push.

Moneyline

This is a guess of which team or individual in any match will straight up win or lose. Winnings are tied to whether you chose the favorite or the underdog. Picking the favorite will create smaller winnings and picking the underdog will create larger winnings. Let's take, for example, a case where there is a favorite, expressed as -160 and the underdog is expressed as +160. That means for every 160 points you put on the favorite, you win 100 points if they win (i.e. smaller winnings than wager placed). For every 100 points you place on the underdog, you win 160 points if they win (i.e. higher winnings than wager placed).

Side Grinding

"Side Bets" are those that are made using your earnings, not weekly handouts. And unlike handout wagers (i.e. those against spreads, over/unders, moneylines), points placed on side bets are at risk. That is, if you lose, your earnings decrease. "Side Grind Bets" include parlays, high/low game and Super Bowl winner. *Players do not need to make side bets.

Parlays

A parlay is a single wager placed on multiple outcomes. This type of wager increases the potential winnings because it is more difficult. The more picks that the player adds to the parlay card, the higher the winnings are. In our game, parlay picks are made against spreads and/or the over/unders in any combination. In order to win, all of your picks must be right.

Highest Scoring Game

A player picks three games, if one of those three games is the highest scoring game, then the player wins.

Lowest Scoring Game

A player picks three games, if one of those three games is the lowest scoring game, then the player wins.

Who will win the Super Bowl

Teams have odds to win the Super Bowl from pre-season to the season end. Teams' odds to win the Super Bowl change as the season plays on. Each week, Grinders can place points on their Super Bowl winning team. Grinders can choose the same team or change it up. It's just a game, so have some fun!

Odds/Winnings

Spreads and Over/Unders payout even money (1:1 odds). Meaning if you wager 1,000 points, then you win 1,000 points plus your principal wager if you are right. If this were a real life wager, you would in effect "Double up."

Moneyline winnings are based on the ratio provided. (For example, +160 means that you would have to wager 1,000 points to win 1,600 points and -160 means you would have to wager 1,600 points to win 1,000.) The minus (-) always indicates the favorite and a plus (+) indicates the underdog.

Parlay winnings pay out as follows: 2 picks = 3.5:1; 3 picks = 6.5:1; 4 picks = 12.5:1; 5 picks = 20:1; 6 picks = 30.5:1; 7 picks = 43.5:1; 8 picks = 59:1; 9 picks = 77:1; 10 picks = 97.5:1

Highest/Lowest Scoring Games: Player will win 2:1 . Meaning if you wager 1,000 points, then you win 2,000 plus your principal wager.

Who will win the Super Bowl: These winnings vary as odds range week to week for each team. After the Super Bowl Champion is crowned, Grinders who picked the team will win based on the points wagered and the odds at the time they made the pick.

Player Bank Account

Week to week earnings accumulate in your Player Bank Account. The final points scored after the regular season will be your capital to play within the playoffs.

Regular Season vs. Playoffs

Equal weekly handouts make each week a contest of its own with a level playing field. The regular season is used to gather your points that will be used in the playoffs. Once the regular season is over, Grinders will no longer play with handouts. Instead, they make picks on the playoff games with their winnings, and all wagers are at risk. Strategies will change. The level playing field is removed. At this point, it is similar to a final poker table where there is a chip leader and a short stack. The Grind kicks into a higher gear during the playoffs. Winners receive the biggest prizes.

How is this different than fantasy sports?
Fantasy football revolves around a roster of players and points tabulated based upon their game performance. The Grind revolves around making picks on games like you would in Vegas (i.e. against spreads, over/unders, moneylines, parlays, etc). Fantasy sports answers the question; who's the best general manager/coach of a sports franchise? SportsGrind.Net simply answers the question; who's the better bettor?

What if making picks is new to me?
No problem. If you aren't experienced but are interested in how to make sports picks, then this game is perfect for you. Read the rules on how to play and then sign up.
